Latvia: 20 songs for "Supernova 2016" announced


LTV announced yesterday 19 candidates with 20 songs for this years national selection "Supernova 2016". Samanta Tīna has two entries in the competition. The national final takes place on 28th February 2016 in Riga.

  7. Marta Grigale - "Choices"
  8. Catalepsia - "Damnation"
  9. Samanta Tīna - "We Live For Love"
  10. Samanta Tīna - "The Love is Forever"
  11. Justs Sirmais - "Heartbeat"
  12. Madara Grēgere - "You And I"
  13. Crow Mother - "Demons"
  14. Markus Riva - "I Can" 
  15. MYRADIANTU - "We Will Be Stars"
  16. Mārtiņš Ruskis - "Still Holding Stars"
  17. DVINES - "Set It On Fire"
  18. Marta Ritova - "Not From This World"
  19. Miks Dukurs - "Paradise"
  20. Iluta Alsberga - "On Hold"
In the list are well known faces from last years competition. Markus Riva participated 2014 with the song "Lights On" in the national selection (Top 10). Last year he was very close to win "Supernova" with his song "Take Me Down". Behind Aminata he ended on 2nd place in the national final. Aminata Savadogo won last year the final with her song "Love Injected". Her song made it very well in Vienna and ended on 6th place. This year she returns to the competition as composer for the song "Heartbeat" from Justs Sirmais. The band Elektro Folk is also very well known from last years competition. Their song "Sundance" ended on 3rd place in the Latvian final of "Supernova".
"We are very pleased that this year we have entered the Supernova. The song is called "Miracle Drums", the sound of which is different from all that ElektroFolk have previously done. Message of the song: At a time when the world increasingly louder sounds of war drums and everything we see and hear all around us and perhaps preparing something that we do not want to experience. So we have the story of the war drums sounding ever louder , and if people will not be able to hear anything different, then we have to play the drums, but our drum is the "Miracle Drums", which will be called all the fighters back home and love." said Iveta Baumane from ElektroFolk after the announcement from LTV.

The winner of "Supernova 2016" will be chosen only by the audience.

Aminata won the first edition of "Supernova" last year with the song "Love Injected". She represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna and "Love Injected" ended on 6th place with 186 points.


The winner of "Supernova 2016" will be honored to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. Who will participate in the first half of the second Semi-Final on 12th May 2016 in Stockholm? Stay tuned...
