Hello Josepha, hello Cosima, first of all gratulations that you are one of the qualified participants for the German national selection “Unser Lied für Stockholm”.
How does it feel to be part of the national selection with your song “Full Moon”?
Josepha & Cosima: It was a big surprise when we were asked to participate! Now we can’t wait to share our music with all the people.
Who had the idea that you could participate in the German national selection and who decided “Full Moon”?
Josepha & Cosima: We got a phone call from the NDR (national broadcasting Television) and they asked us if we would like to participate in the German preselection of the Eurovision Song Contest. We immediately thought of our brand new song ‘Full Moon’ which we had written during our festival-tour in summer, we thought the song would fit perfectly and we said ‘yes’!
What is the message of "Full Moon"?
Josepha & Cosima: We wrote the song ‘Full Moon’ during our festival-tour last summer. Spending nights under the open sky made us think about the moon. Every night the moon reflects the sunlight and proofs to us that the sun is still there on the other side and that there will be another sunrise tomorrow. The moon gives hope in dark hours.
Everybody has a connection to the moon, that’s what we all have in common. We are all kind of in the same boat – no matter where you live, you know the moon!
Also the ESC brings together many countries and we all speak the same language, which is music. We really like the thought of bringing people together with music. Our song ‘Full Moon’ is powerful and positive and we would love to share it with the world.
Can you tell us something about the beginning of your career?
Josepha & Cosima: We both sing and play all instruments by ourselves. Josepha plays the drums and Cosima plays the piano and the guitar. We make music together since our childhood and we love singing in harmonies. In 2015, we released our debut album ‘Horizon’, which we recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London together with the Grammy award winning Steve Orchard. We have been playing lots of concerts and festivals in Germany and around Europe, did some support shows for Van Morrison and we got the chance to play our songs together with the NDR Bigband. The association of German bookers (VDKD) awarded us as the best Newcomer 2015.
How is it to work together with the own sister?
Josepha & Cosima: We both love to have the sister around. On stage, in the studio or in interviews – we do everything with the two of us. When we make music together we feel like one person. This strong connection is just great!
What are you expecting in the national selection “ULfS”, are you excited?
Josepha & Cosima: We write all our songs by ourselves and we love to share our music with people, that’s why we are touring a lot. It’s fantastic to reach so many people with the ULfS and we can’t wait to play our new song on that big stage.
At the moment you are on tour promoting your new album. How do you find time to prepare yourself for the show?
Josepha & Cosima: Every night, we play our new song on stage and it’s amazing to get all these positive reactions from the audience. We actually think the best preparation is being on tour.
What is your first Eurovision memory?
Josepha & Cosima: We were still kids when Guildo Horn sang his song “Guildo hat euch lieb”. We watched the show together with our two brothers.
What are your plans for 2016 beside the German national selection?
Josepha & Cosima: We are touring a lot with our Album ‘Horizon’ and besides playing concerts and festivals we are secretly writing new stuff for our second album. We also got some shows booked outside of Germany cause we really enjoy travelling different countries with our music.
If people outside Germany never heared about you before – what should they know about you?
Josepha & Cosima: Someone once said that he memorizes us as the female version of ‘Simon and Garfunkel’.
Why should the German audience vote for your song to represent Germany at Eurovision 2016?
Josepha & Cosima: We are doing what we love and we think the audience will feel that.
Do you have a message for “Join Us on Eurovision” readers and your fans?
Josepha & Cosima: Don’t forget to be a reflector of love! And let no one else but yourself be the pilot in your head!
Thank you so much for answer those questions. Good luck for you and your song in the German national selection and maybe we see us in Stockholm!
