Hello Alda, first of all gratulations that you are one of the qualified participants for the Icelandic national selection “Söngvakeppnin 2016”.
How does it feel to be part of national selection with the song "Augnablik"?
Alda: It feels great. I am so happy with how the song turned out and it looks like Iceland is liking it!
Who had the idea that you could participate in the Icelandic national selection and who decided "Augnablik"?
Alda: Well this has been in the works for quite a while now with the whole team involved. My managers, Steinunn and Soffia discussed this with the writers Alma Goodman and James Wong early 2015, about writing a song with me in mind. Then Jimmy was writing for Justin Bieber's Purpose album and I was writing my debut album "Heim". With our busy schedules we still longed for making that one true Eurovision song and then Alma Goodman and Jimmy got together and wrote "Now" the english version of the song and then me and Alma sat down and wrote "Augnablik" the Icelandic version together. The whole birth of the song summarizes all our individual adventures together in being in the "Now".
What is the message of "Augnablik"?
Alda: The song is about enjoying every living moment. We are so caught up with our past and our future and sometimes forget that we are living in the moment and we have to enjoy because you never know what tomorrows gonna bring.
Can you tell us something about the beginning of your career?
Alda: I had been singing my whole life but didn’t have the strength to begin a career until my aunt pushed me to participate in Iceland Got Talent. That turned out great for me, I Won! Since that day, I knew my career had begun.
2015 you have won the Icelandic version of “Got Talent”, congratulation! Can you tell us something about your experiences in that competition?
Alda: Thanks! The whole experience is something I will never forget. I learned so much about performing on a big stage in front of a big audience. It was also a big personal win for me because I had been doubting myself before I participated but when I sang on the stage in Iceland Got Talent I proved to myself I could do it.
What has changed in your life after your victory?
Alda: A lot of things have changed. I have been working on my own music ever since, released an album in November 2015 and now I am taking part in Eurovision. It´s been an amazing journey!
What are you expecting in the national selection “Söngvakeppnin 2016”, are you excited?
Alda: I am so excited. I will do my best to win over the country but Eurovision is always tricky, you never know what to expect from the audience. I will just hope for the best!
How do you prepare yourself for the show?
Alda: I am always rehearsing and training my vocals. I am a perfectionist!
Are you a Eurovision fan?
Alda: YES! I always have been and always will be :))
Which are your favorite Eurovision songs and what is your favorite from Icelandic entries?
Alda: My Icelandic favorite is definitely "All Out Of Luck" with Selma Björnsdóttir and my second favorite is "Stronger Every Minute" by Lisa Andreas from Cyprus.
What is your first Eurovision memory?
Alda: When Selma Björns sang "All Out of Luck" in 1999.
Who is Alda as private person?
Alda: It’s a good question. I haven’t thought about it much. I always have to keep myself busy but I love cozy nights in front of the TV as well.
What are your plans for 2016 beside the Icelandic national selection, are you working on a album?
Alda: I just released an album "Heim" last November so right now I am just focusing on touring and playing live.
What was the most excited moment in your life?
Alda: When I won Iceland Got Talent I think but also when my nephew was born.
If people outside Iceland never heared about you before – what should they know about you?
Alda: That I’m a small town girl from Iceland with big dreams. I’m a vocalist, instrumentalist, songwreiter and lyricist who has recently released her debut album.
Why should the Icelandic audience vote for your song to represent Iceland at Eurovision 2016?
Alda: Because the song sounds very current. It’s meaningful and everyone can relate to the lyrics.
Thank you so much for answer those questions. Good luck for you and your song in the Icelandic national selection and maybe we see us in Stockholm!
