RUV, broadcaster from Iceland, announced the 12 finalists and their songs for "Söngvakeppnin 2016". The national selection includes two Semi-Finals and the national final, which wil be on 20th February 2016.
"Söngvakeppnin 2016" - Candidates:
- Sigga Eyrún - "Kreisí" (Crazy)
- Helgi Valur Ásgeirsson - "Óvær" (Uneasy)
- Erna Mist & Magnús Thorlacius - "Ótöluðorð" (Unspoken words)
- Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir & Hjörtur Traustason - "Hugurminner" (My mind is)
- Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson - "Spring yfirheiminn" (All over the world)
- Alda Dís Arnardóttir - "Augnablik" (One Moment)
- Karlotta Sigurðardóttir - "Óstöðvandi" (Unstoppable)
- Ingólfur Þórarinsson - "Fátækurnámsmaður" (A broke student)
- Elísabet Ormslev - "Á ný" (Again)
- Greta Salome Stefánsdóttir - "Raddirnar" (The Voices)
- Sigríður Eir Zophoniasardóttir & Jóhanna Vala Höskuldsdóttir - "Égséþig" (I see you)
- Pálmi Gunnarsson - "Égleiðiþigheim" (I lead you home)
In each Semi-Final six acts will perform to get one of three tickets to the final. All songs must be performed in Icelandic. In total seven acts (one of them will be a "Wildcard" chosen by a jury) will fight for the ticket to Stockholm in the national final on 20th of February 2016.

Maria Olafs represented Iceland at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest this year in Vienna with the song "Unbroken", but she faidl to qualiy to the Eurovision final.
