Malta: Ira Losco wins "MESC 2016"

The Maltese national final of "MESC 2016" took place Saturday in the centre of Valletta in the MCC. 14 contestants fighted to get the ticket to Stockholm. In a entraining show, hosted by Ben Camille, won at the end the popular Maltese singer Ira Losco the competition with her song "Chameleon (Invincible)".

The end result was not really a surprise. She was the big favourite of the night. Before Ira performed on stage her "MESC" entry, the audience was screaming already very loud Ira.. Ira.. Ira.. again and again.


There was a very magical atmosphere in the audience and it was clear that all of them wanted Ira Losco to return to the Eurovision stage this year, after recieving the 2nd place 2002 in the Eurovision Song Contest final with the song "7th Wonder". Do you remember her Eurovision entry?



Ira was in that year very close to win the competition. Latvian Marie N won with only 6 points more 2002 with "I Wanna". This was the best result for Malta in the Eurovision history since their first participation in 1971.

The voting for the "MESC" winner was made by five jury members and as 6th jury member there were the televotes from the audience.

In the press conference after the show it was said again that it's still not final decided if "Chameleon" will be the song for Stockholm. If PBS decides to change Ira's song, than the composers will be involved in the process.

"...Where Do I start ?? GRAZZI - THANK YOU for trusting in me and my Team .This is my first moment on Facebook since yesterday before the performance . I had a good night sleep but the day started quite busy with interviews. YOU have been my rock. ‪#‎Chameleon‬ was the darker song it was intended to be with it's peaks and drops. Friday was a difficult day for me and my team but we soldiered on and yesterday started also a bit bad until i received the news that Steve , my drummer was in the clear and discharged from hospital. I thoroughly enjoyed performing yesterday night and felt the love and the warmth at MCC. I was told it was quite loud as with my in-ears it was hard to tell but i surely felt it . I would like to congratulate Brooke Borg and Franklyn for their well deserved 2nd and 3rd placing both worthy of a first place as well as the other contestants. I would like to also take this opportunity to thank TVM and all the crew for their delivery, dedication and passion shown with all contestants...." wrote Ira yesterday on Facebook after her victory.

Ira Losco will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. She will participate in the second half of the first Semi-Final on 10th May 2016.
