MyRadiantU are one of the contestants for the Latvian national selection "Supernova 2016" with their song "We Will Be Stars". They will perform in the Semi-Final of "Supernova 2016" on 21st February 2016 in Riga.
We talked to Janis from MyRadiantU some days ago about their participation in the Latvian national selection "Supernova 2016". Read our interview with them below to find out what they had to say...

Hello Janis, first of all gratulations that you are one of the qualified participants for the Latvian national selection “Supernova 2016”.

How does it feel to be part of the national selection with your song “We Will Be Stars”?
Janis: It’s a great feeling to be part of such a well organized and watched show. We where pleasantly surprized to move on to the semi finals by the audience vote. We have added quite a bit to our performance over this past week and have made some changes in the lighting and hope to make it to the next round – the final.

Who had the idea that you could participate in the Latvian national selection and who decided “We Will Be Stars”?
Janis: I wrote the song to address the modern day slavery. It was to be used for a documentary touching these matters. Once it was done it also felt fit for the Supernova contest. We showed it to a producer who is a friend of mine and he was happy to produce it for us.

What is the message of "We Will Be Stars"?
Janis: The message of We Will Be Stars is one of deliverance and breaking form any form of bondage in to freedom. I believe that every human being on the planet earth has a voice and no one and nothing should steal it from them. So it’s a call of hope and raising your voice.

Can you tell us something about the beginning of your career?
Janis: I started out as a musician when I was 18 years old. And my wife, Ilze, has played piano since she was six. From the first few chords that I learned on the acoustic guitar, I started composing songs and form me it’s always been about communication through music. Ilze grew up in a Latvian pentacostal church and she grew up playing gospel tunes on the piano for the congregation. And I as well started out as a worship leader at a local church. I think gospel music still takes a huge part of our lives. However, Myradiantu is an indie pop band and we have released a number of singles which have made it to the top charts in Latvian radio stations and we are about to release our debute album in March called “The City of Love. I think that We Will Be Stars has a slightly different sound and feel than the rest of the album but it’s not too far from the rest of our music. We love performing duos :)

What is the meaning of the band name “MyRadiantU”?
Janis: It means My Radiant You. And the idea is that we all radiate some kind of light or energy and it’s not just about me radiating it but it’s about the other person as well. It’s not just about us, but it’s about the listener and it’s about the higher power above us that is radiant.

What are you expecting in the national selection “Supernova 2016”, are you excited?
Janis: I am very excited and I love what we are doing and it’s an awesome chance for us to bring something to the table. We hope to make it to the next round and we improve every time we do.

How do you prepare yourself for the show?
Janis: We take some vocal lessons. This week we finaly got our choreographer involved. We have been working with a latvian lable BlankBlank for our outfits. So, there’s a lot of work involved around the 3 min performance

Which are your favorite Eurovision songs and what is your favorite from Latvian entries?
Janis: My Favorite from Latvia is "My Star" by Brainstoorm. And I loved Loreene’s song…it was something else. I think my all time favorite, even though it didn’t win but should have was The Common Linnets with "Calm After the Storm". It was just beautiful.

What is your first Eurovision memory?
Janis: I think it is Brainstorm performing so well for Latvia being a rookie at an event of this scale.

What are your plans for 2016 beside the Latvian national selection, are you working on a album?
Janis: Our album is coming out in March. We are working on bringing the album to the stage with our band and we hope to hit some of the bigger summer festivals.

What was the most excited moment in your life?
Janis: Getting married to Ilze and seing our three children being born. I am very proud of my family…it’s the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

If people outside Latvia never heared about you before – what should they know about you?
Janis: Probably it would have to do with our music and I hope they would love what they heard and I hope it would have enough radiance to move them.

Why should the Latvian audience vote for your song to represent Latvia at Eurovision 2016?
Janis: I think it’s a very beautiful song and each time we present it we do even a better job that before. It have a strong and relevant message and it would make the Eurovision 2016 even more colorful and beautiful. I think we stand out.

Do you have a message for “Join Us on Eurovision” readers and your fans?
Janis: Life is too beautiful to let it slip by so enjoy every moment of it! And always remember that this life was given to you and no one should have a right to steal it from you. You have a voice and it should be heard!!!!

Thank you so much for answer those questions. Good luck for you and your song in the Latvian national selection and maybe we see us in Stockholm!
