Italy: Exclusive! Interview with Deborah Iurato & Giovanni Caccamo "We've decided to present ourselves together - two friends who sing in Sanremo"

Deborah Iurato and Giovanni Caccamo are one of the contestants from the 66th Sanremo festival this year with the song "Via da qui". They will perform it tonight in the first show.

Some days ago we talked to Deborah Iurato and Giovanni Caccamo about their participation in the "Festival di Sanremo 2016". Read our interview below and find out what they had to say..

Hello Debora, hello Giovanni, first of all gratulations that you are one of the contestants for the Sanremo Festival 2016.

How does it feel to be part of Sanremo 2016 with the song "Via da qui"?
It is for us an indescribable feeling. We will face this stage with ease and joy. Beyond the race it is already a dream to be there and be able to present our respective album: "Non siamo soli" (Giovanni Caccamo) and "I'm still" (Deborah Iurato)

Who had the idea that you could participate in Sanremo 2016 and who decided "Via da qui"?
The song was written by Giuliano Sangiorgi. The idea of singing a duet was born in the studio while Giovanni accounted his album. We were at the piano and started to sing along to the tune of "Via da qui". At that moment came the magic. We've decided to present ourselves together. Two friends who sing in Sanremo.

What is the message of "Via da qui"?
Many love relationships, friendships, social, sometimes have difficulties, friction. "Via da qui" emphasizes that knowing how to ask "excuse" and knowing how to put pride aside at times could solve any conflict.

Can you tell us something about the collaboration between you?
We've known for two years. We are both coming from the same city: Ragusa in Sicily. The first collaboration was in the summer when Deborah sang a song written by Giovanni with the title "Da sola".

What are your expectations for Sanremo 2016, are you excited?
Anxiety and adrenaline but a lot of positivity.

How do you prepare yourself for the show?
We try to be focused but at the same time to enjoy this unique experience.

The winner of Sanremo will represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. How important would it be to represent Italy?
At this time the Eurovision is our utopia. It would be a further wonderful dream come true. It would be an honor but also a great responsibility. We would face everything with ease while remaining ourselves.

What are your plans for 2016 beside Sanremo festival, are you working on a album?
Giovanni: My album is called "Non siamo soli" and it'smy second album. It was written entirely by me, except the song of Sanremo. There are collaborations with Carmen Consoli and Malika Ayane.
Deborah: My album is called "Sono ancora io" and it's my second album. It contains the song of Sanremo, many unpublished and reinterpretations of my hit songs.

Do you have a message for “Join Us on Eurovision” readers and your fans?
We continue to support the Italian and European music. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for answer those questions. Good luck for you and your song in the Swiss national selection and maybe we see us in Stockholm!
