ESC 2015: Portugal participate in 2015, Czech Republic and Lichtenstein will not


The Portuguese broadcaster RTP confirms that Portugal will also be part of the 60th Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. Just four times in the past Portugal didn't contriubute a song to the yearly competition. In 1970 it was a protest against the rating system, in 2000 Portugal couldn't qualify due to the bad result in 1999. While in 2002 the Iberian country withdraw by own reason in 2013 the financial crises made Portugal couldn't afford a participation.

Portugal returned in 2013 with Suzy and the song 'Quero ser tua'. Even Suzy was one of the audiance favorits she couldn't qualify for the final and ended up on the 11th place in the 1st semifinal with just a point missing to the qualifing position.

While Portugal will also participate in 2015, Czech republic will not return next year. Also Lichtenstein will not debut in Austria. This is what the broadcaster stations confirmed. Czech republic participate in 2007 for the first time but due to the bad results the country withdraw in 2010 and since then is absent from the competition. Lichtensteins broadcaster 1 FL TV is not an active member of the EBU and therfore is not allowed to take part in the Eurovision Song contest. Even there have been rumours to participate a speaker of the broadcaster now confirmed that their are no plans to achieve a member status in the EBU, means also no participation in the ESC.

With Belarus and Montenegro declaring their participations as most likley more the the half of last years numbers is reached. EBUs deadline for announcing a participation next year is 10th of October. It is earlier than the last years due to that the EBU need more organisation time for the 60th anniversary edition of the competition.
